30 today ✌🏻 • • Phew! What a year! What a decade! This has been singlehandedly the biggest year of personal growth for me. It was damn uncomfortable, but also pretty damn liberating. I have never been more sure of who I am, and damn, I’m pretty awesome. I’ve learned that there is strength in vulnerability and in softness. I’ve tried (for the most part) to let go of trying to control everything. My happiness (and confidence) doesn’t have to depend on anyone else—I can be happy on my own while also supporting the happiness of others. I’ve let go of the shoulds of my 30s: My life will be what it will be—completely mine to do with what I want. I’m in no hurry to get married or have kids. I’m happy with where I am right now. I’m learning to believe in myself a little more each day. I’ve stopped (for the most part) comparing myself to others—there’s room for us all to shine in our own way. I’ve found the magic in gratitude to turn all that I have to being more than enough. I’ve forgiven myself and others for the mistakes we’ve made when we were younger. There’s a lot more peace in situations where I used to feel tension. I trust myself to be my own healer, decision maker, and problem solver. • • Here’s to the next year and decade! Here’s to all the growth we have made and all the growth that we have yet to make! 💛 Here’s to 30! // #pleblife
Would it really be Fall without a picture of my shoes and some fallen leaves? 🍂 • • After a year and a half of adventuring and city exploring, these @veja sneakers are still going strong! They are definitely my go-to shoes when I want to be comfortable, but still look kinda cute. 👟 These @girlfriend leggings are also my go-to for yoga and also lounging around. With these on my bottom half and an oversized, cozy sweater on my top half, I am ready for anything this holiday season! I’m here for all the cozy vibes this time of year. 🐻 I was tempted to get some fancy loungewear last Black Friday weekend, but in the end, I just need to be comfy and man am I comfy in what’s already in my little loungewear capsule. // What’s your go-to comfy/cozy outfit? // #pleblife
Trading in colorful knits for colorful walls 🎨 🌈 • • I’m not gonna lie...I’ve been sitting on this photo for months now in fear that I’d be tarred and feathered for buying a pair of jeans from Madewell, but the truth of the matter is: I’ve worn the heck out of these jeans. These jeans fit me, and they fit me well (not an easy feat with my body shape). They’ve already gotten at least 30 wears since I got them in October. They make me feel beautiful and confident when I’ve had a love/hate (more hate) relationship with jeans for the longest time. I’ve given ethically-made jeans a fair chance, and have since let them all go. Ultimately, I’m really content with this purchase because I actually wear them. Like a lot. Maybe too much. • • I used to be pretty rigid about shopping ethically—making sure that ALL my purchases were ethical, but I’m slowly realizing that it’s not all black and white, as most things related to ethics are not. It’s rather more like a delicate dance of being patient so that you can find what you’re looking for, while also not settling for anything less than what you actually want and what you’ll actually wear, while also working within your budget and lifestyle. Before I flexed on my views, I was limiting myself to what ethical or secondhand pieces I could find that worked for me—limiting my style in the process. Meanwhile, I was pinning and saving looks like this, and truly believed that only thin girls could wear high-waisted straight jeans with a tee tucked into it...until now. Now, I feel like me. I look how I want to look, and I flipping love it. There’s nothing more that makes me feel like myself than an all black outfit. I wear something like this at least multiple times a week now. My search for jeans is over. I won’t be wasting anymore time or resources on finding my perfect jeans. These are it! These are just some random thoughts that have been rolling around in my head for the last few months, and I’m not looking to debate them. If there’s anything I’ve learned from this journey these last 2.5 years, it’s that what’s ethical, sustainable, and minimal to you is different to what they are for others—and that is 100% okay! // #pleblife
Back to the daily grind... ☕️🥐 • • Slower mornings is something I want to bring into my routine in the new year (but why wait til then? Let’s start now!). I know that when I take some time for myself when I start the day, the rest of the day is smoother. As a teacher who needs to be out the door no later than 7:30am though, this routine needs to be realistic and quick (counterintuitive, I know). Currently, if I’m able to make coffee and breakfast at home, that’s a win in my book, but I want it to be more intentional than that. I would also like to introduce a no-screen activity—maybe a bit of journaling or reading or meditating. So let me know your morning routine! I’d love to know what all you slow living experts are doing to start of your days, and maybe try some out! 🌞 #pleblife
HELLO YELLOW 💛 This cardigan is the only sweater I’ve purchased (secondhand from @crossroadstrading) this season. This one plus the two from my partnership with Eileen Fisher have been my sweater additions for this season—and for this sweater obsessed Angelino, that’s a pretty big feat! I’ve even let some go (and am almost ready to let a few more go), and have been just really content with my smaller collection. • • For some reason, I’m braver with colors when it comes to knitwear. Maybe the coziness makes it more wearable for me. Maybe I tend to crave a bit of color this time of year with the grey skies and all. And maybe, just maybe, my style is growing to be less neutral. Whatever it may be, I’m really enjoying this season of cozy, earthy knits, especially with an all black base. 🧶 This was the perfect outfit for a morning of walking around the flea market and dumplings for lunch. 🥟 // (Side note: I’m also proud that this outfit is mostly #secondhand—all except the tee!) // #pleblife
While we were in Santa Cruz, we spent a rainy day there at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and we had the best day. There was a moment, as I sat there in The Great Sea exhibit watching sea turtles, hammerhead sharks, sun fish, and sting rays swim across the giant glass, where I was overcome with so much guilt. Guilt of choosing convenience over low-waste. Guilt of being less diligent and neurotic about bringing reusables with me—for having the “it’s just one cup this one time” thought one too many times the last month or so. I was in full on survival-just-get-through-Thanksgiving-break mode. I know I was just doing the best I could at the time, but I can do better. I’ve done better. I’m doing better now (I made sure to pack a low-waste kit for us to travel with). And so before the new year (and new decade) begins, I’m recommitting to low waste—to pressing snooze one less time to make coffee at home, to grocery shopping on Sundays and meal prepping for the week, to bringing tupperware when we eat out, and to doing my actual best with what I have (which to be honest, is a lot of reusables). Here’s to doing our actual best. ✌🏻#pleblife
