Back to black on black 🖤 and needing all the coffee for this Monday. • • I had the best time hanging out with Hanna from @sotelaco on Saturday morning. I got to visit her darling little studio (that I learned was only 8 miles away from my apartment!), meet her sweet intern (Hi Michelle!), and help her do what I do best: shoot things on white walls (lol). I am always so very grateful for our friendship. Hanna is so damn inspiring, funny, and kind. She was the very first person I told about my new direction (back when it was still just a tiny idea), and she was so very supportive. She’s still so very supportive, and I couldn’t be more thankful that a brand partnership has blossomed into our friendship. I remember putting it out into the universe many, many years ago that I wanted friends who were creative, understanding, and inspiring—Hanna is one of those friends for me. I also put it out into the universe to have a pair of wide legs linen pants this year, and oh man, did she deliver on the goods! These pants were my only non-secondhand purchase of the Summer, and you bet I’ll be pairing it with all my favorite knits (when I can) this season. Linen for LA fall? Final day of #thriftweekclub and I just made it in with another outfit featuring one of my latest secondhand find—this denim chore jacket ✌🏻 • • I’ve been surprisingly craving a bit of color in my wardrobe—mustard yellow particularly. Not wanting to fall back into old patterns of my fast fashion days, I’ve been hesitant to add in any mustard yellow items into my Fall wardrobe. I chose to transition to a monochromatic wardrobe last year for a reason. And so rather than buying the couple of mustard yellow sweaters that I have saved on Poshmark, I shopped my own closet this morning and pulled out one of my two mustard yellow pieces: this beautiful @sotelaco linen tank. It’s still (annoyingly) in the 80°s over here in LA so buying loads of sweaters is sadly not necessary or really practical. I even feel that the 8 sweaters and the 8 cardigans I own are a bit excessive for the weather here, but it makes sweater weather that much sweeter when it does finally roll around. It also means my Spring/Summer wardrobe pieces can stick around for a little while longer. It’ll probably be around November when I can finally switch over my capsule to include my beloved knits. For now though, this denim chore jacket that I found at the flea market from @geraldine_vintage last weekend is the perfect transition piece into LA’s version of Fall. 🍂 • • A special thank you to @laurenmarigold for hosting thrift week! Breathe. Trust the timing of your life. What was meant for you will not pass you by. • • I needed to tell myself this a few times last night as feelings of frustration and disappointment bubbled up. The last month has been a whirlwind of emotions for me, and maybe for you too. Maybe we all need this reminder every now and then. And so let it sink in as you read the words again: Breathe. “May you approach this season with gratitude and a deeply rooted hope that everyday will teach you something that is an integral part of your growth.” — @morganharpernichols • • I’ve fallen off my gratitude journal routine since August. I’m not quite sure what happened. Maybe there were times that I was happy and it felt silly and unnecessary, and maybe there were times that I was lazy and it felt silly and unnecessary. But as the days have worn on, I have noticed feelings of anger, anxiety, bitterness, and obligation creep back in and have burrowed a deep place to stay. When I was gratitude journaling more regularly, these feelings used to be more like visiting friends. They’d come, they’d stay a while, and they’d go, but gratitude was always there to gently escort them away. • • At work last week, we were asked to recommit to something. The Sagittarius in me had a mini-panic attack. I wrote down a non-risky answer to recommit to choosing joy, but I think I’m realizing that I actually need to recommit to writing in my gratitude journal regularly. “October is about trees revealing colors they’ve hidden all year. • People have an october as well.” 🍂 • • I know it’s cliche to say this as a blogger, but I really do love Fall. Not because of pumpkin spice (not really my thing) or even the colors (not really LA’s thing), but I love it because of the feeling of new beginnings in the air. I often find that I notice my growth from the course of the year once October rolls around. It seems as if I’ve finally processed all that has happened (and man, has a lot happened), and then the rest of the year is dedicated to integrating and settling into the new me before another year of growth comes around. I am really feeling it this year, and I am digging it. Here’s to all our octobers—whether they’re happening now or a month from now. Tis the season to embrace change and I am here for it! #pleblife

Day 1 of #thriftweekclub ✌🏻 • • I am so proud that this outfit is basically 100% secondhand: Free People dress and Marais ankle boots from @poshmark, my beloved Mansur Gavriel bucket bag from @ebay, and these Rayban clubmasters that I forever “borrowed” from Brandon 😎 • • I’m not sure if I’ll be posting everyday for this challenge, but it is pushing me to wear more of my secondhand gems. It is also a great reminder for me to shop more secondhand than new, which was a goal of mine this year. Not only does it help our planet, but I feel that it also helps keep my wardrobe small and curated. Out of the 62 items in my wardrobe, only 8 (so about 13%) is secondhand or thrifted. I’m not sure whether that’s a “good” percentage or even what my goal is, but I do feel like recently, I’ve been trying to find things, even ethical pieces, that I want secondhand first before buying it new. I feel like it’d be so easy to revert back to my shopaholic tendencies and overbuy when it comes to thrifting or buying secondhand with it being so “cheap” and all; and so I’m taking a slower and mindful approach to secondhand shopping as well. I still ask myself loads of questions and give myself some time to think about it before buying. Shopping secondhand also lends itself to a slower pace of consuming as it does take a bit of time and luck to find the exact pieces that I want (i.e. I’m currently waiting for someone who’s a size 8 to realize that they don’t want their Everlane ReKnit Glove Boots in Toffee anymore). More often than not, the “want” will fade away, and as time passes, I’ll either forget about it; someone else will buy it before I do; or I’ll figure out that it’s no longer needed in my wardrobe. Whatever way you slice it, buying secondhand when you can is always a good option 👍🏻 #pleblife
