Warming Up My Wardrobe with Nisolo’s Ama Mule

If you’ve been around the ethical fashion world, you will have heard about Nisolo more than once or twice because almost every ethical fashion blogger owns at least one (if not more) pairs of shoes from them–and with good reason. Simply put, they’re ethically made, fairly priced, and high quality shoes that will last for years and years.

I bought my first pair of Nisolo shoes last summer–the Isla Slide Sandals (in black, but I am really tempted to get them in sand). They took a few days to break in, but now they feel like butter and I was SO excited to bring them out of storage once the weather warmed up. Now I have my second pair–the Ama Mules, which I was kindly gifted by Nisolo in compensation for this blog post. For both shoes, I went up half a size (8.5) as I do tend to do with sandals and mules to allow my wide feet enough room.

A little back story about these mules: I almost bought them myself back in November during Black Friday. I hemmed and hawed about it that whole week, and as the sale was coming to a close, I felt so much pressure to buy them since they’re so beautiful and they were on sale, but in the end I decided against it. There was one big reason standing in my way: the old fashion faux pas that brown and black do not go together. While I do enjoy wearing black almost exclusively, I don’t really ever consider brown accessories because of my mostly black wardrobe.

I was a little nervous picking these to receive, but there was a little voice that kept telling me that these shoes needed to be a part of my wardrobe. And man, oh man, am I glad that they’re finally here. They work so easily with so many of my pieces, and they feel like the missing piece to make my wardrobe feel a little bit more Spring/Summer (though I know they will also transition well to Fall/Winter). They just seem to warm up my outfits a bit and encourage me to try a bit of color (hello yellow!). I love how these mules bring together my uniform of a tee and slip-dress combo.

– OUTFIT TWO –

I wore this outfit for a quick date night to grab thai food with Brandon. I’ve been living in this sweatshirt, and it’s taken every ounce of my being not to wear it to work everyday. So as soon as I get home, I put it on for optimum lounging and relaxation. On this day, I didn’t want to take it off, so I tried to make it work for a date night. I added some black pants and slipped on these mules to dress the look up a little, and I absolutely love how this outfit turned out!

The mules didn’t take as long as I thought they would to break in! They were pretty comfortable on the first day, but after a few wears, they feel like butter on my feet! It’s pretty incredible how one simple piece like a pair of brown shoes can make you look at your wardrobe so differently, especially a wardrobe that has been so carefully curated to center around the color black over the last two years. These shoes have fit in seamlessly in with the rest of my wardrobe, and they’ve also made me start dreaming of expanding my style to include warmer pieces (and make doing so feel a little less scary and a little bit more attainable). If you’ve read my blog for a long time, you’ll know that dressing for Spring & Summer are not my favorite (mostly because wearing black just seems easier in the Fall & Winter), but now with these shoes (and a few new pieces), it seems a little more exciting!

Thank you Nisolo for this opportunity to work together and for these beautiful pair of shoes! I cannot wait to continue to see how they continue to work with pieces in my wardrobe.
