Review: Everlane Authentic Stretch High-Rise Skinny Jean

Jeans and I have had a pretty tumultuous relationship over the last few decades: There were the times where I would wear nothing but jeans, and would kick and scream when my mom tried to put me in dresses for family portraits and church on Sundays. Then there were the times when I owned no pairs of jeans, and would wear only dresses and skirts. Lately though, it seems like I’ve been finding a balance between these two extremes. My wardrobe now includes 4 pairs of jeans: 3 pairs of skinny jeans and 1 pair of wide-leg jeans–all black. However, because I’m such a mood dresser, I’ve noticed that I really only wear jeans when I feel good about myself and my body.

Over the last few decades, as I’ve struggled with body positivity, jeans have been my arch nemesis. When they wouldn’t go above my knees or over my thighs, I would feel so worthless and ugly. There have been many pairs of jeans that have made me cry right there in dressing rooms. I think though, thanks to Everlane, my relationship with jeans are on the up and up!

I was kindly gifted these Everlane Authentic Stretch High-Rise Skinny Jeans in Washed Black back in late November. Since receiving them, I’ve worn them 10 times, which I think is the most I’ve worn any pair of jeans in a long while (you can see my live wear count here).

QUALITY

The only pairs of jeans that have withstood this last year and a half of decluttering my wardrobe are a pair of Levis that I slit the knees and chopped off the bottoms to achieve that cool raw hem look. I would say that this pair from Everlane feels more like denim even with the amount of stretch they have. As I’ve said time and time and time again, I’ve never had a problem with the quality of Everlane’s pieces and that’s why I keep going back to them for my wardrobe essentials. Everlane makes up about 25% of my entire wardrobe!

COMFORT & FIT

One thing I’m always worried about with stretchy jeans is that they will lose their stretchiness; but with the last 10 wears, I haven’t had to worry about that at all. It still hugs all my curves just right, and I don’t have to worry about any annoying gaping when I’m sitting down. I got my normal size, and it fits wonderfully! I love how comfortable they are! They almost are as comfortable as leggings, which is a win in my book as I’m constantly having to sit on the carpet or kneeling when I’m at work. These jeans pass the teacher test for sure!

VERSATILITY

At first, I wasn’t so sure how much I’d like the washed black color since they’re not a true black (lol), but after some time, I really do like how it’s more of a grey and it breaks up all the (true) black that I have. I did love these jeans so much that I bought them in actual black; but surprisingly, I’ve found myself reaching for this pair more! I think jeans are versatile in nature; so I love pairing these jeans with sweaters right now in the Winter and I look forward to pairing them with my t-shirts in the Spring and Summer!

Overall, I would highly recommend this pair of jeans to anyone! This was the perfect outfit for a Sunday morning spent perusing a flea market and finding some pretty awesome prints to finally add more decor in our tiny apartment.
