Review: Everlane Silk Square Shirt Dress

Dresses have become a recent staple in my closet. I remember in the early days of our relationship, Brandon would comment that he wished I dressed more like a girl sometimes. The only time I would wear a dress was when we had to go to a wedding (and it was only because I hadn’t found a jumpsuit that worked for me [still haven’t!]). He actually bought me one of the first dresses that wasn’t intended for a wedding (this one that I’ve worn time and time again).

So fast forward a year or two…enter the Everlane Silk Square Shirt Dress.

I’ve been a fan of Everlane ever since it first came on my radar in 2015. At that time, their transparency was so radical and I adored (and still do) their minimal basics. I’ve been a big fan of their t-shirts; and so, with my newfound fondness for dresses and my recent resolve shop sustainably, I wanted to give their dresses a try.

QUALITY

I’ve never had a problem with Everlane’s quality. Their Boxy Striped Tee has lasted me years and looks like it did when I first got it. The Silk Square Shirt Dress is no different. The silk is so soft and smooth against my skin. This is definitely a dress that I can see staying in my all year round wardrobe: light enough to wear in the Spring/Summer, but also light enough to layer under jackets and cardigans in the Fall/Winter. I haven’t tried washing it yet, but when I do, I’ll be sure to dry clean it as the label suggests.

COMFORT & THE FIT

One of my favorite things about Everlane is the people who buy it and put reviews on the site. These reviews are pretty accurate and are so helpful when it comes to buying from them. The reviews said that this dress ran oversized and suggested to size down, so I did. I sized down one size from my usual and this fits perfectly. It’s still oversized, but in all the right ways. Because I’m 5’2″, this dress hits me right above my knees rather than mid-thigh like the model (but this is a struggle I have with most dresses so I cannot hold this against the dress). This dress has been worn on some unseasonably warm days here in LA but also has been worn to birthday dinners in the chilly evenings. It’s so incredibly versatile and I’m tempted to buy it in Navy so that I have two in my closet, but I think for now, the black will do just fine.

(Psssst. This dress is actually on sale right now for $69. Everlane has a great option of Choosing What You Pay).

Overall, I am loving this dress from Everlane and am falling more and more in love with this brand with each passing purchase. I’ve recently purchased the Boss Boot and the Japanese GoWeave Cocoon Dress, and I can’t wait to receive them and review them for you guys on the blog.
